Kitap Publishing House was established in September 2002. Its list features popular academic non-fiction works by leading historians including Suraiya Faroqhi, Ahmet Yaşar Ocak, Peter Burke, Carlo Cipolla, Carter Findley, Reşat Kasaba, Amy Singer, Mary Işın, Marianna Yerasimos and Charles King. Another area in which Kitap Yayınevi specialises is Turkish translations of accounts by travellers to the Ottoman Empire, notably those by Tavernier, Tournefort and Thevenot, which were edited by Stephanos Yerasimos. In 2004 Kitap Yayınevi was awarded the Publisher of the Year prize by Dünya Book Magazine. Kitap Publishing House also publishes literary works under the Helikopter name. This series includes works by Shakespeare, Turgenyev, Dostoyevski, Tolstoy, Gogol, Marguerite Yourcenar, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Carlo Levi, Elio Vittorini and Andre Maurois.
